Bug Bites May Have Caused Zebras' Stripes

A new study contends that zebras evolved from all black to striped in order to repel insects that distract them from feeding. Researchers from Hungary and Sweden said that zebras' black and white stripes are the least-attractive hide pattern to disease for horseflies.

As embryos, zebras start out with dark skin. They go on to develop their white stripes before birth. Many believe this was an evolutionary adaptation to help them avoid bug bites. Studies showed when horseflies were present the narrower the stripes, the fewer flies they attracted. The researchers also tested the attractiveness of a white, dark and striped horse. The study found the striped horse drew the least flies.

Since us human's can't paint ourselves different colors to avoid bug bites we are going to have to stick with Penetran+Plus to deal with the pain associated from them. People say they just apply a small amount to the infected area and within minutes they feel better. No more pain and no more itch but maybe in our next lives we should all come back as zebras!
